In that case, monit should probably do the job nicely. It's lightweight and
you can monitor the state of remote services from one host. Although if you
want to interact with them in case of issues, for example doing automate
service restarts, Icinga could probably be better suite
I am not sure if it suites for you, but some month ago I had installed
'collectd'[1] on one of my router to gather some system / network.
All of the metrics have been send to an InfluxDB instance (which is included in DebOps)
and visualized (on a different system) via Grafana.
For the router is is quite nice, because I do not have to store any logging data at this
device and 'collectd' is quite small, but if the network is broken, I do not get
any metrics currently : /
